As of right now, Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) is leading democratic candidate Mark Begich by 3353 votes. With only 50,000 mail-in ballots left to count, there is a strong possibility he will win re-election. Ted Stevens recently was convicted of violating federal ethics laws for failing to report tens of thousands of dollars in gifts and services he had received from friends. Because of this violation, many senators have pledged to expel Stevens from the Senate upon his return. A senator can be expelled by a two-thirds vote.
After a senate expulsion, the governor of a state is formally required to appoint a temporary fill-in for the seat. As Governor of Alaska, this choice falls to ...duh dah dah...Sarah Palin. She could, technically, appoint herself. She could also run outright for the seat. Either would put her back in the national spotlight.
Her approval rating in Alaska is currently at 68%.

Do you think Sarah will appoint herself temporary senator if Stevens is expelled?
